Mountain Breeze North American Style Flutes
The design of our flutes is based on flutes made by Native Americans in centuries past but are executed with contemporary materials and techniques. They have the haunting tones of the Native American Flute (NAF) and are concert tuned to the easy to play Pentatonic (five note) Scale. Please note that no one at Mountain Breeze Flutes either can or does claim to be of Native American origin.
The flutes are crafted from selected domestic and exotic hardwoods. Some flutes have complementary red tinged California walnut or black walnut end caps. Fetish (also called a block, totem or bird) designs range from the elegant Roadrunner with a walnut base supporting an ironwood roadrunner carving to the functional Cat in matching hardwood. Durable synthetic finish is used throughout and will resist normal handling as well as most mild cleaning and sanitizing solutions including alcohol.
Most Mountain Breeze Flutes are designed with smaller, close-set tone holes to be easy to play by all – women with small hands and older children as well as adults with stiffening fingers have played them. The sound mechanism is designed to be tolerant of a beginner’s breath control while still responsive to the needs of more experienced players.
The mellow voicing is easy on the ears and the pentatonic tuning means all notes sound good together.

Mountain Breeze Flutes are the Easy Flutes
Our flutes are designed to be easy to play, easy on the ears and easy on the eyes
Easy to Play
We
take great pains to balance the many variables involved in a well
designed flute so that our flutes are easy to play. This means
optimizing finger hole size and spacing without sacrificing strength of
voice, tone quality or ability to play the extended pentatonic scale.
Easy on the Ears
One
of the attractions of the Native American Style Flute is the wide range
of tonal qualities available, no two are identical. Our flutes, while
not identical, can best be described as sweet and mellow, lacking in
the harsher overtones and breathy notes sometimes heard.
Easy on the Eyes
Our flutes are designed to be as visually soothing as they are acoustically soothing. This is achieved through careful attention to the wood, grain pattern, color and shape of each element of the flute. Our flutes are designed to cater to those who find beauty in simple, smooth flowing lines, patterns and colors. The finishes likewise are choosen to have the quiet elegance of visually soft hand rubbed lacquer but with the durabilty of modern synthetic materials.
